Nicolas mainly advises traditional financial market companies as well as fintech startups in the field of financial market regulation, also regarding the distinction of regulated and non-regulated business activities. Providing legal advice regarding the Financial Services Act (FIDLEG) and the Financial Institutions Act (FINIG) as well as the Anti-money Laundering Act (AMLA) is also a core competence of Nicolas’ practice. Nicolas is a lecturer at the Institute of Financial Services Zug of Lucerne University of Applied Sciences. He is also an elected member of the arbitral tribunal of SRO Treuhand Suisse and regulatory auditor of the SRO of the Swiss Bar Association. Nicolas is involved in legislative projects and regularly publishes articles in legal journals and economic media in his fields of expertise.
For over 10 years, Nicolas has been active in the field of financial market regulation. Prior to joining Mercury Compliance Ltd. as a partner in 2019, he was the CEO of the largest AML self-regulatory body and parabanking industry organization in Switzerland from 2014 to 2018. Prior engagements were with a top tier law firm and with FINMA. He became a member of the Swiss Bar in 2008. He also holds an LL.M. degree with specialization in securities regulation from UCLA School of Law.
Nicolas is a member of the Zurich Bar and admitted to practice at all courts in Switzerland.
