Samuel Ryhner has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry and joined Mercury Compliance AG as a partner in 2013. Previously, he served as the general counsel of an internationally focused asset manager with headquarters in Zurich. As a partner and member of the senior management, he was responsible for managing the firm’s legal & compliance function and in charge of designing and implementing group-wide compliance standards as well as overseeing all legal and regulatory aspects of client mandates and investment products.

Prior to this engagement, Samuel worked for several years for a big-four audit firm auditing and advising Swiss and international banks, securities dealers, collective investment schemes and asset managers in all fields of financial services law and regulatory compliance. Samuel started his legal career in a commercial law firm in Zurich.

Samuel studied at the University of St. Gallen/Switzerland (HSG) and at Queen’s University in Kingston/Canada. He majored in business administration (lic. oec.) in 2000 and in law (lic. iur.) in 2003. In addition, he is a Swiss qualified Attorney-at-Law and was admitted to the bar in 2006.

Samuel has broad experience in regulatory advice in the financial services sector and as a member of the board of financial institutions, including in the audit committee of a Swiss retail bank. In addition, he frequently publishes on financial services law topics.

Samuel is registered with the cantonal attorney’s register in Zurich and admitted to all courts in Switzerland.
